Toronto, ON - September 19, 20008 - three O and Infomaxium Bring PMP® Training to Macau!

threeO and Infomaxium have partnered to provide our PMP® Exam classroom course to students in Macau. Let us pass on a little information about the city of Macau first, then'll we'll update you on the course.

The city of Macau is about 45 miles from Hong KongMacau Map. To get there we flew directly from Toronto, Canada, to Hong Kong and then took a ferry from Hong Kong to Macau. The ferries that run between Hong Kong and Macau are very fast - they maintain speeds of around 90 km per hour, or 60 miles and hour so the trip only took 45 minutes which was a shame in a way because the scenery on the way is so beautiful.

A word of explanation: although you'll see the city's name spelled Macao on the map to the right and elsewhere on maps, in Macau it's spelled Macau so we'll use that spelling here.

Macau was a Portuguese outpost for years, similar to Hong Kong. It was a major trading port for the Portuguese, established just after the turn of the 17th century and although it hasn't been under the control of the Portuguese for many years, you can still see the influence of that period on the culture here. In fact, until quite recently, Portuguese was the official language in the city!

Now the city is very similar to Las Vegas, in fact there's a Venetian Casino here that dwarfs anything in Las Vegas! The resemblance between the 2 cities is especially striking at night when the Casinos light up to attract customers. The city also has a vibrant economy and technology is an especially hot area which leads us to the reason for our being there.

Macau at Night

We came to Macau at the invitation of the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM). CPTTM is a joint venture between the Macau government and private enterprise and it's goal is to nurture Macau businesses by increasing productivity through the use of new technology, information, and knowledge. The class was held in the CPTTM facilities in Macau and was attended by 12 very keen project managers. They had to be keen because the course was run over the weekend - Thursday through Monday! The course lasted 5 full days with each day being broken up by an exercise which the students completed in 3 teams.

Team work appeared to be a strength with these students; work was completed on time and the work results were excellent! Students demonstrated their grasp of the project management concepts on which the exercises were based by the thoroughness of their solutions to the problems posed in the exercises.

It's too early to tell at the time of this writing, but if the students demonstrate the same work ethic in their post class studies with AceIt
© as they demonstrated in the classroom, they can't fail! All in all it was a pleasure to talk to the project managers in that class and Infomaxium and I wish them all the best in the future!

The Course

The course taught in Macau was a customized version of a classroom course created for local customers. The original requires 20 hours of classroom time and 15 hours of self-directed study, over 5 days, using AceIt©. The customized version taught in Macau was given in 35 hours of classroom time over 5 days; the material originally intended to be covered in self-study was covered in the classroom.
